Decree and Declare

Message of Encouragement Monday (MOEM #018)

I was involved in a discussion recently about whether our words have power. My answer was, “Absolutely!” I have learned in the last couple years just how powerful our decrees and declarations are. I would even say that for most of my life I neglected to use this powerful weapon that God has given us.

You want to see something come to pass? Make it a regular part of your decrees and declarations. Speak it out. You are literally moving those mountains in front of you. Look at it as if you are chipping away at the enemy’s armor. It may take time (even years) but, as a child of God, you have creation power in your tongue. Job 22:28 says: Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.

On the flip side of this, I have really started to watch the negative things that come out of my mouth; speaking down on God’s creation or people, saying thoughtless words, etc. Just as one simple example, when you say “that’s incredible,” you’re really saying that it’s not credible. You are invalidating the thing, or canceling it. The definition of incredible is something that is “impossible to believe.” So, we need to know what we are actually saying, and we need to be intentional with our words because they are filled with power.

Listen to what Proverbs 18:20-21 teaches us about the power of our words. It says:

From the fruit of their mouth a person’s stomach is filled;
with the harvest of their lips they are satisfied.

The tongue has the power of life and death,
and those who love it will eat its fruit.

So if you, as God’s child, start speaking in alignment with God, you will see that needle of progress start to move. You will start to experience the power of your own tongue, of your own words. As my wife reminds me, “Don’t speak what you have or what you see with your own eyes. Speak what you want to have and what you want to see.” Don’t rely on the five senses, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Decree the thing…and it shall be established unto thee!

Don’t forget God today!
