Message of Encouragement Monday (MOEM #019):
Proverbs 14:22 says: Do not those who plot evil go astray? But those who plan what is good find love and faithfulness. This verse speaks to two different types of heart motivations and two very distinct results. Those who plot evil…go astray. Those who plan what is good…find love and faithfulness.
Listen to how some Bible commentaries describe those who plot evil. They are described as being lost, wandering, taking the wrong course, having distorted views, no longer seeing the right course, they do mischief to their neighbors and contrive schemes. They go astray because they weary themselves on the way of wickedness, they go through the desert, they take the long way, and they don’t find God’s way.
You see, when we choose to travel that road, we find emptiness. We find frustration. It’s a road to nowhere. And then we’re left wondering, why is nothing going my way? We’ve all come across people like this; and maybe we’ve been this person; maybe we still are this person to some degree. Afterall, we are all born with sin in our flesh. But, the truth is that there are full-grown adults who are well on in their years…still manipulating, still scheming, still plotting as their normal way of life. We’ve all come into contact with it. We’ve all seen this type of behavior in society. So, with humility, to the mocker and the schemer, I say, “It’s time to get real. God is calling you out of that. It’s time to get off that path to nowhere.” God has redeemed us and called us off the paths of nothingness.
And when you begin to plan what is good, you find love and faithfulness. Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary says for these people, “Wisdom possesses the heart, thus regulates the affections and tempers.” When you see someone who cannot regulate their affections and tempers, they are not walking in wisdom. They have gone astray. And the only way to get back on the road to wisdom is through Jesus Himself. The good news is that it can all start with just a small pivot towards God. Like anything we may be struggling with in life, we can simply go to Him and say, “Lord, I need Your help with this. I want to get off this path and onto a path that is fruitful for me and those around me.”
Don’t forget God today!
